“Realizations do not guarantee change. However, we need realizations to start the process of change.” — Mary Ward, LPC
After years of providing therapy I hit a dead end, felt burnt out, frustrated.
Thus I began seeking more knowledge that focused on how our brains work and store experiences. In 2003, I started my PhD and challenged the direction of my focus to compose thirty five paged papers with inclusion of Neuroscience, Microbiology, and other forms of scientific research related to Psychology. Unfortunately my mother became very ill. Since I was the only adult child close by, inclusion of care for her, as well as work as a clinical therapist became taxing. Eventually I had to stop my PhD almost halfway through.
I continue to follow updated findings within the scientific arena on how our senses, emotions, and thoughts transform into experience. That the brain and body works together and is interconnected as one . This affects who we are as a whole. This realization changed my entire direction of therapy.
Although talk therapy and revelations are part of that process, they are only a part.
I work with couples, individuals, and adolescents by looking at the patterns and communication issues. We recognize the stressors they are dealing with, but also use techniques that seem to help decrease conflicts in the present.
What is so exciting, is that by doing this approach of treatments along with talk therapy, persons served tend to share improvement in their lives much quicker. They seem to feel better and can use those approaches discussed much easier on a daily basis.
Simply put, clients move forward and do much better in a much shorter period of time.
